Universal Pictures Making A New Scarface Movie

Thursday, September 22, 2011 · No Comments

Universal Pictures has announced that they are in the works, making a new Scarface movie.

Scarface is one of the most popular gangster movies to date. And now it is getting updated once again, but the studio is developing a new version based on elements of the 1932 original and 1983 film, according to Deadline.

It has been reported that the movie is not intended to be a remake or a sequel.

According to Deadline, both pictures told the story of an immigrant who muscles into the crime scene and becomes a major underworld figure, before toppling from power because of his weaknesses.

Al Pacino took on the iconic title role in Brian De Palma‘s Scarface, co-starring Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

Paul Muni played the character in the first version. Howard Hawks directed the 1932 film, which also featured Ann Dvorak and iconic actor Boris Karloff.

Universal Pictures’ new take on the film will be produced by the last Scarface producer Martin Bregman, with chairman of Universal Pictures Marc Shmuger.

Since Pacino is currently attached to gangster drama Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father. I guess it only seems right to make a Scarface film for the millenium.  Pacino will be joining Kelly Preston, John Travolta and Lindsay Lohan in the movie directed by Barry Levinson.
