Johnny Depp Back On To Play Tonto In The Lone Ranger

Friday, October 14, 2011 · No Comments

Disney Studios have picked up The Lone Ranger once again and now Johnny Depp can pay homage to all the wonderful Native Americans out there.

Disney wants Johnny Depp to play Tonto to make a point.

Johnny Depp says:

“I like the character of Tonto. I think I have interesting plans for the character, and I think the film itself could be entertaining and very funny. But also I like the idea of having the opportunity to make fun of the idea of the Indian as a sidekick — which has always been [the case] throughout the history of Hollywood, the Native American has always been a second-class, third-class, fourth-class citizen, and I don’t see Tonto that way at all. So it’s an opportunity for me to salute Native Americans.”

Glad to hear that Johnny Depp…We know you are the man to bring that to life.

Don’t forget tonight is the big premiere of the Rum Diary where you can wait in a crowd to gaze at Johnny.

In other news, Johnny Depp may be one of the front-runners for a new Beatles movie.

Although, The Beatles have not had many movies made about them and Across the Universe does not count.

Now, Michael Winterbottom is setting to take the helm of The Longest Cocktail Party. A film, which is based on the Richard DiLello book, that showcases the most crucial moments in the band’s career between 1967 and 1970.

The Longest Cocktail Party, will be  produced by Andrew Eaton. But the whole project was given birth by the original producer and Oasis front-man Liam Gallagher.

It was Michael’s idea to turn the book into a movie, and it is also his idea to cast Johnny Depp as Derek Taylor, the band’s publicist.

However, Andrew is having some creative differences, and feels Johnny may NOT be the best fit for the role, saying:

“Johnny in a way would be great. But the trouble is, Derek Taylor, who’s the main character, who’s the press officer, he’s from Liverpool, and he’s probably 32 or 33 in the story, whereas Johnny Depp is 48 or something, and American, so it’s more than just the age gap. There are other parts he could do, but whether he could be Derek. … I don’t know.”

What do you think?
