Lil Wayne Gets Sued By Another Producer Over Tha Carter III

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 · No Comments

The lawsuits continue over Lil Wayne’s critically acclaimed album, Tha Carter III.

Producer David Kirkwood filed a lawsuit against Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment imprint as well as Cash Money Records, claiming that Young Money and Cash Money have stiffed him when it comes to over $1.5 million in royalties and production services.

The lawsuit against Lil Wayne was filed in New York Southern District Court on Friday [June 3rd]. This marks the third lawsuit over unpaid royalties and production services for Tha Carter III.

In March, the rapper had a lawsuit filed against him for the sum of $20 million by producer Darius “Deezle” Harrison, who claimed he was never paid for his work on Tha Carter III. Additionally, producer Bangladesh also sued over Tha Carter III, claiming he was never paid for his work on the album either.

In other news, Lil Wayne is gearing up for his ”MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged” performance, but before the special airs, he’s addressing his detractors.

Wayne recently spoke with MTV about those who might change their opinion of him once they see him in action.

Lil Wayne explains to MTV:

“I’d say thank you very much and please tune into my ‘Unplugged’ and understand why I was given the opportunity to have an ‘Unplugged.’”

“I believe that the ‘Unplugged’ stage is a platform for you to show and prove to people that don’t know too much about you. Actually, people that may have thought otherwise about you.”

He explains why he chose to perform Tupac’s song “Hail Mary”:

“I chose the Tupac song ‘Hail Mary’ because I thought that it was very similar to my situation that I was just recently in. I was just incarcerated and ‘Pac was incarcerated. There’s a whole bunch of similarities between ‘Pac and I, and I just thought it was the perfect song. I had to give a tribute to the people who did what I do so much better than I do.”

Catch the special, airing this Sunday, June 12th at 9pm ET on MTV and MTV2. Lil Wayne is currently working on Tha Carter IV, which has a tentative release date of August 29th.
