MOVIE REVIEW: ‘The Cabin In The Woods’ NOT So Scary Plot Twist Has Lackluster Ending

Monday, April 16, 2012 · No Comments

Let me start off with the twist in The Cabin In the Woods was a complete let down!

Being a horror film fanatic, I was expecting to be blown away by the flick, but instead, I saw the direction of the film and the overall premise within the first 15 minutes. I wanted the movie to surprise me, but instead, it disappointed me and insulted my creative talents. if you are a horror buff like me you’ll appreciate the attempt at something different, but once the film gets going and the kids reach the cabin, it becomes a mondane lackluster.

This weekend I headed out to see the long-awaited film The Cabin In the Woods, only to leave disappointed with the over all storyline of the film. I don’t want to give it away too much, but as you all know the movie makes fun of all past horror films and slasher movies like Friday The 13th, Hellraiser, 28 Days Later, The Evil Dead, or any type of blood drenched festival of young people being slaughtered.

At first, I felt that they were really gonna take me there, but once they go into the basement I knew exactly where they were going and what they were gonna do. The killings were boring and nothing new. Was this film supposed to be like Final Destination, no but, I expected something better than what they came up with.

Although, the movie is a combination of horror, comedy and mythology – the film initially come across as lazy set-piece planning, but as the story plays-out, it’s clear these were intentional choices by Goddard and Whedon, but ties together in the end with its overarching plot.

Moreover, The Cabin In the Woods might be underwhelming for some diehards, such as myself, but it does deliver and interesting plot line not seen in a horror film. The film can take credit for changing the game for typical slasher films, making comedy of its predecessors, laughing at the genre, and adding a new dimension of layering to the “horror” genre. Though, Whedon and Goddard hold nothing back with the flick flicker, delivering layer after layer of revelation in The Cabin in The Woods universe. Is there a set up for another. Let’s put it like this, it Hollywood, so they’ll find a way to make another, but hopefully if they do, they take it a step further and do not reveal all the scares in the trailer. That really pissed me off, because I knew when and how everyone gets killed in the movie. And as for the end, by that point, I didn’t care, it just became a blood fest of cliché killings and let downs. – Get the full review after the jump…

The movie is a great look at teens in high school and the struggles they have to overcome with society and what the world ha to offer them.

Kids today have more things to worry about than not being a virgin anymore. There are social issues, status, environmental issues, social media, popularity, consumerism, and knowing who you are. The movie is all that and more, thanks to the brilliant efforts of Mario Van Peebles. He tends to have an eye for what people over look and what we forget to see with our kids today and the problems that teachers face getting through to our kids. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 · No Comments

Duologue are a newly formed four-piece band from London, they made their mark at this years SXSW in Austin Texas and last night at Bardots in Hollywood.

Last night, Duologue captivated the crowd with the hypnotic guitar and electro-sound which is reminiscent of New Order blended with Radiohead. The group gave a superb performance. GBC was happy to be in the crowd and up close with the band. Duologue bands frontmen are, Toby Lee and Seb Dilleyston, The 4 member band makes their unique sound and style come to life with a multi-instrumental sound to the stage. From “Mesmerized” to “All Goes Wrong” the band had me from the first moment.

Duologue is about music, they have a sound that is all their own and that is what is important. Like earlier years in music the band is about the music. It refreshing to see a band like Duologue. Most new bands are all styled and revamped which makes you feel like they are studio made, Duologue is not one of those bands.

Drawing  from a broad range of electronic music, guitar, violin, synths and electronics.  Their love of ‘band music’ as well as a broad range of electronic music, provides a whilst of never forgetting sound the embodies the need for solid melodies and songs.  Duologue is the sound that is coming out of London these days. - Watch Duologue Exclusively here at GBCWow.com on the flip…

Kerry has done it all from biopic films like Ray with Jamie Foxx, The Last King of Scotland with Forrest Whitaker, Lakeview Terrace  with Samuel L Jackson to A Thousand Words with Eddie Murphy.

Kerry Washington is a very versatile actress, she has no strategy or method on how she pics her films, but Washington shows that she has what it takes natural skill. GBC was able to talk with Kerry on her latest film A Thousand Words where she plays Eddie Murphy’s wife, Caroline McCall, a woman who wants to take her marriage to the next leave, but has problems since Jack [Murphy] can’t talk.
