Did you feel the 6.0 Quake that rocked the east coast. It centralized in Richmond, VA and was felt as far north as New York City and surrounding areas, Washington DC and surrounding areas, and as far West as Pittsburg and Philadelphia, PA to the southern region of North Carolina and the surrounding areas.
I spoke to a friend who works on the 33rd floor of a downtown office, who said it was scary. People were running everywhere and had no clue on how to react to an earthquake.
Here is two rules:
Stand in a doorway and secure yourself, but relax and go with the shaking, role or thrust of the quake, so you don’t break any bones.
Hide under a strong sturdy table.
Do NOT use elevators.
Do NOT run into the streets and stay clear of tall buildings, falling concrete and falling glass.
Finally, get away from power line, gas stations, gas outlets etc… make sure your gas lines are intact after the quake…no one wants to blow up.
Here is an interesting fact from the Wall Street Journal:
Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a statement saying the State Office of Emergency Management monitored the earthquake, and that there were no reports of damage to buildings, bridges, roads, power grids, the Indian Point nuclear power plant, or other infrastructure. Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokeswoman Diane Screnci said the nuclear plants at Nine Mile Point on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario were not affected.
The quake struck only six months after New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said earthquake resistance of the Indian Point nuclear power plants north of New York City should be considered. Regulators are weighing a request for new licenses that will keep the plants working into the 2030s.
Do you agree?
Where were you at the time of the quake?
